Army Digital Acquisition Environment
Defense and Military
Challenges
As the U.S. Army Pathfinder program for
Digital Transformation advanced full-
force into Digital Engineering, a dynamic
platform was required to streamline data
interoperability across acquisition and
sustainment disciplines to manage the
complexities of the XM-30 Mechanized
Fighting Vehicle. The U.S. Army’s Digital
Transformation Pathfinder programs require
a dynamic Digital Engineering platform to
streamline datarepositories, analytical and
validation tools, product architectures and
baselines, and all tiers of advanced modeling
and simulation.
Solution
Sabel Systems deployed a cloud-hosted
Digital Acquisition Environment (DAE)
tailored to the Army’s robust security and cross
functional requirements. This adaptable
framework facilitates the acquisition strategy
and supports the digital transition from
development to sustainment.
Key components of the solution
included:
- Code Foundry: Government-owned
DevSecOps pipelines that automate the
integration, testing, and delivery of all
vendor-developed code for the XM30
emphasizing government data rights and
risk-reduction. - Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL):
management and evaluation. - Model-Based Enterprise Foundation:
Connected suite of Simulation models used
to accelerate requirements compliance.
Results
The Digital Acquisition Environment yielded
significant improvements for the Army:
- 300+ users from the Program Office, Test
Community, Industry Experts and Senior
Leadership were enabled to collaborate
effectively. - Concurrent PLM and MBSE suites supported
high-volume CDRL delivery and evaluation. - A Government-Furnished Code Foundry
was established to streamline code
development, testing (functional/safety/
security), and validation while promoting
government data rights and downstream
supportability into the code delivered its
acquired weapon system. - Customized workspaces were configured
to support efficient reviews of program
milestones.
